Dave Brighton Residing in Sheffield, (UK), has been around the rock'n'roll scene for over thirty years, both promoting his own

rock'n'roll events and playing his platters all over the North & Midlands, though he is based in South Yorkshire. Currently

playing monthly at the Dale Tavern, Barnsley and the Parklands Ballroom, Doncaster . He also gets bookings at other

rock'n'roll clubs and is involved in promoting Rockin' Gigs at Doncaster with Crock Higgs for the Woodfield Club. He's done

several previous long residencies.

When he's not too busy in the clubs, Dave is hard at work collating data for the The Complete UK Rock'n Roll Gig Guide

which he does in collaboration with his Southern counterpart, Drew Spikes, the Bass player with the ALLEYCATS.

Recently he has been on a Radio Presenters' course in Barnsley, gaining experience in a team with the aim of broadcasting

his own Rock'n'Roll program which he is now proud to be presenting called "BOP 2B" for Northern Radio for the benefit of

interested listeners. He is always available to provide a good selection of rock'n'roll and roots related music from his collection.

Dave has twice now been a guest on Dell Richardson's Good Rockin' Tonight show on Radio Caroline, answering questions

about the Gig Guide and choosing some great records to go on air. The genre he loves is based mainly from the rock n roll 50's

period though covering Jump-Blues,Western Swing, Hillbilly, Rockabilly, Doo-Wop, Boogie Woogie, Some be-Bop and swing

from the Big Band era, Cat music, Country Hicks, Roots Blues & Rhythm, (R&B), plus current bands and artists whose music

reflects and emulates that sound in their own material.

Dave's start in the RnR field was during his teens finding that the then current music did not satisfy his musical interest and

knowing a friend who was overtly passionate about a former Memphis truck driver, preferred a Carl Perkins version of the

same song. It was also at this time he was interested in Rockin' instrumentals and this gave rise to the desire to shar the listening

enjoyment with like minded people, thus purchasing equipment for the purpose of providing record hops at local pubs in

Sheffield. This led to the formation of the Sheffield & District Vintage Rock n Roll Society which was affiliated to the National

"VRRAS" led by Neil Foster. Large venues were booked in the South Yorkshire area in order to hold Rock n Roll events

featuring local, National & often, International Bands and artists which were attended by people from across the North and

Midlands areas of the UK, numbering over 400 but not lass than 300 on each occasion. This lasted for around ten years until

the scene started to change. After a brief lull of 12 months Dave took up Videography and recorded many of the

Annual Skegness Rock n Roll Weekenders which were also very popular and well attended. Another lull came after a period of

bereavement and the Birth of his Son which needed his paternal skills. Around the same time Dave started up with Geoff

Bunting at Birdwell Club as the resident RnR DJ's which continued for a long period until leaving the venue a few years ago. It

was also in the last few years at Birdwell that the idea of setting up a National Gig Guide of RnR came initially from peoplesuch

as Moggie Dooley and Iain Robertson who were at the time producing listings for the N.E. Midlands & N.West of the UK.

Drew Spikes noticed Dave's listings hosted on a couple of Dance Related websites and another listing covering the South of the

UK elsewhere on the Internet and proposed that he would be prepared to design a website that would combine all the data as a

National listing expanding as demand grew. This was the Birth of what has now become an officially recognised benchmark for

Gig listings and info covering the UK. with an increasing number of visitors over the last three years.

Dave is often accused of being a Purist when it comes to Rock n Roll related topics and conversely, for not being so by others.

Either way he believes in his dedication to the Genre' he loves and to share that with others using the tools, skills, training and

motivation to achieve it.

Now you can share that experience and enjoy his shows on Northern Broadcasting.
